It seems easier to favor appearance over substance. We even buy into the concept of equating skin’s visual appearance—number of lines, its tightness and youthfulness, as a gauge of desirability. I’m so OVER this perspective.

Judging your skin simply on the basis of how it looks is like judging a book by its cover. We forget entirely the essential connection between our skin and our overall well-being.

• Do you know what it feels like to hold your hand?
• What does your arm, your elbow feel like?
• What about your legs?

This Thanksgiving, we can be grateful that beauty is not a superficial pursuit on the part of women trying to become beautiful.
