Skincare Hydration vs. Moisture: Do You Know the Difference?
Is your skin dehydrated, dry or both? Check your skincare products

Is your skin dehydrated, dry or both? And are you aware that there’s a difference between hydration and moisture?

We’re not always attuned to the condition of the skin on our bodies. Many of us quickly figure out what our facial skin type is, and we take the necessary steps to give it what it needs. All good stuff—but what about the rest of your skin?

Here’s a primer on the differences to help you figure out what you need for good body care.

According to aestheticians, dehydrated skin refers to skin that lacks water, while dry skin lacks oil or sebum—the oily substance that our sebaceous glands produce to help lubricate and protect skin.

Dehydrated Skin

If your skin feels dry, flakes, or is itchy or sensitive, your skin can be considered dehydrated. Environment, hormones, diet and skin care product usage are all factors that impact skin hydration.

Dry Skin

If you have ashy, parched skin, chances are it is not producing enough oil. Production levels vary from person to person but more importantly our bodies produce less and less oil as we age.

I formulated Eu2Be skin care specifically to provide a balance of ingredients that nourish and protect your skin by minimizing the amount of water loss that happens through your skin.

Humectants like vegetable-based glycerin (no GMOs!) draw water from the air into your skin, and occlusive ingredients or emollients lubricate and protect the skin's surface by creating a barrier against water loss and locking in moisture.

Hydrating skin is really a matter of increasing the amount of water in your skin cells. Drinking plenty of water to stay well-hydrated is key, in addition to applying moisture-locking ingredients that keep your skin healthy and smooth.

This is where layering your products comes into play as the most effective means to keeping your skin healthy:

Once you’ve got water in with Eu2Be lotion, you want highly emollient moisturizers like the kind found in Eu2Be oil to keep it there.

Moisturizing isn’t a straight-line process, and different oils perform in different ways, depending upon the conditions in which they’re called to work.

For example, Macadamia Nut Oil’s fatty acid profile is very similar to that of the human sebum, giving it the ability to easily penetrate the skin’s epidermis to deliver its softening, moisturizing and healing properties.

Avocado oil is another wonderful, potent, healing oil that is enjoying much popularity right now—and for good reason. It has one of highest penetration rates amongst oils, which means it delivers its hefty vitamin-rich, collagen-boosting, skin-cell regenerating benefits completely and quickly. It also doesn't hurt that the luminous Lupita Nyong'o revealed her love for avocado, and research shows that with repeated use, avocado oil provides significant hydration and skin elasticity improvements.

What makes skin care products like Eu2Be highly nourishing is a combination of botanical oils from seeds, nuts, kernels and plants that “lock” water inside the skin cells—this ensures that the broadest moisturizing functionality takes place without disrupting the skin’s natural oil production.

As we say, Be the Guardian of what’s precious to you—starting with your skin.
